WHO ARE WE?

A PIONEER ASSOCIATION IN PORTUGAL

The Group of Friends of the National Museum of Ancient Art is a non-profit cultural association, founded in 1912 by the first Director of the MNAA, Mr. José de Figueiredo.

It was the first of its kind in Portugal and one of the oldest in the world.

Among its founders are distinguished names connected to the world of Arts and Letters.

Since its foundation, the GAMNAA has supported and collaborated with the MNAA in the accomplishment, development and divulgence of its programmes and projects; in the acquisition and restoration of works of art; in the valorisation of its library; in the restructuring of spaces and in the organisation of temporary exhibitions and conferences, contributing in a decisive way to the enrichment of the collections.

In parallel, the GAMNAA has developed its own activities, promoting events, art courses, cultural visits in Portugal and abroad, and other initiatives.

The GAMNAA has a body of Volunteers who welcome and support visitors and Friends of the Museum, and who collaborate and promote other activities inherent to the Group.
